Dark Souls. From Software (2011) Xbox 360

Who likes smashing their face against a wall repeatedly? Because that is what happens in Dark Souls. It is a game where you headbutt a concrete wall so many times that you’ll eventually start to chip away at it. You can give up, go to hospital, return home and do something else. Or, you can get patched up and resume the head meeting wall scenario until you chip away a little more wall. And when you make slight progress you feel so triumphant in your head wall smashing ability that you charge headlong into the next wall, immediately snapping your neck and returning to hospital.

How much you enjoy this will have a direct correlation to your anger levels and the amount of control pads you can afford to smash into itty-bitty pieces after the 37 attempts at FUCKING Ornstein and Smough GAH HUMPH FUUUU, but if you can get over the initial difficulty there is a stupidly good game behind 75 reinforced concrete walls. Top 50 Games 2016

top50banner

To celebrate our upcoming 2 year anniversary, we have put our heads together and come up with a TOP 50 games list of games we have featured since launch.

TO SEE THE CURRENT LIST PLEASE CLICK HERE.

Don’t be offended if your favourite game doesn’t feature!

Rules:

  1. One per franchise, otherwise the Top Ten would be an ode to the Final Fantasy and Resident Evil series
  2. Game must be at least TWO years old. I know this doesn’t qualify for most peoples definition of retro, but it meets our “has to still hold up as a game” criteria.
  3. Games may not have received “full” reviews. I.E, we haven’t played/reviewed EVERYTHING, we’re only human!
  4. To make up for 3, Editors got to pick some wildcard games. These are games we have not played/reviewed for the site yet but collectively we feel they are worth a mention
  5. The stated console is the version we were playing

So, here we go! Continue reading

Gears of War Box Art

Gears of War…

It is hard to remember a time before Triple A games being coverbased shooters, with auto regen-health, but to it’s credit GoW was one of the first out the gate.

Now… Does this mean it was good? Or not… Continue reading

The Walking Dead: Season 1, Telltale Games (2012) Playstation 3

twd-telltale-UK-release1

It’s Halloween! Or it was when I started writing this.  If, like me, you hate dressing up because it’s biased against the overweight and bearded, you’ll want something to keep you occupied whilst everyone else is “having fun” or “falling in love” on the 31st. But it’s Halloween, so it has to be spoooooky, right? No? Come back here…

Fallout 3. Bathesda (2008) Xbox 360

fallout-3-xbox-360

So, Oblivion with guns, more commonly known as Fallout 3. The hype machine around Fallout 4 is in full effect, so I took this chance to relive my time in the wasteland, and spend a (relatively) good 36 hours avoiding Deathclaws, and punching radroaches in the face.

I’ll be honest when I started playing this game, I really wanted to hate it. I could remember all the flaws, and none of the positives. So going back to it, how does it fair? Continue reading
