Double Dragon. Technos (1988) Nintendo

Double Dragon didn’t actually get a PAL release according to Wikipedia, which is news to me, as I swear blind I played this as a kid so I am a little confused. Anyhow, Double Dragon II was one of the first games we reviewed, so I am going to punch and kick my way to inevitable death on the Wii Virtual Console version. Continue reading

Knights of the Round. Capcom (1994) Super Nintendo

I made the bold claim that Turtles in Time was probably the best Beat ’em up you’ll ever play, and Reddit being Reddit proceeded to do what Reddit does best. Flame you for hours on end for: a) Having an opinion that differs from somebody else, and b) having not played a game that didn’t get a release in the continent you’re from.

Now I know opinions are like arseholes, in that everyone has them, but it did make me think is Knights of the Round any good, or is this just some douche on the internet smug raging?

Anyway, I bought a copy from Spain that turns out to be a dodgy PAL conversion. So with that in mind, how is Knights of the Round? Continue reading

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan. Konami (1991) Gameboy

Right off the bat, this isn’t the worst Ninja Turtles game you’ll play. But it certainly isn’t a good one. Continue reading

Final Fight 2. Capcom (1993) Super Nintendo

finalfight2boxart

I didn’t really like Final Fight on the SNES, it was too hard, lacked multiplayer, and suffered weird censorship issues. It also felt a little hollow when compared to Streets of Rage or Streets of Rage 2.

With Final Fight 2 we have a two player option and some new characters, and less pointless censorship. So does that make Final Fight 2 better than the first one, and where does it rank amongst it’s peers? Continue reading

Golden Axe 3. Sega AM7 (1993) Sega Genesis

No western cover art exists

I really didn’t like Golden Axe, and while Golden Axe II was slightly better, it still wasn’t a good game. So rather than prolonging my suffering I decided to play the final installment in the Golden Axe saga (that isn’t an arcade exclusive, or a Sega Game Gear game). Golden Axe 3 was a Japan exclusive, but did feature on the Sega Channel for a while in the US, but on the whole, isn’t the most well known of the three.

So where does Golden Axe 3 sghape up then, and have they finally polished a turd? Continue reading

Streets of Rage 3, Sega (1994) Sega Genesis

streetsofrage3

Streets of Rage is good, and Streets of Rage 2 is marginally better, and I am on a Megadrive kick at the moment, I thought I’d finish of this trilogy.

So…

Is SoR3 any good? Continue reading

Golden Axe II. Sega AM7 (1992) Sega Genesis

golden_axe_ii_coverart

All right, so I didn’t like Golden Axe. I thought it was bland, the combat wasn’t very interesting and what little fun there was is exhausted after 5 minutes of playing.

So with 2 whole years between this release and the original, you’d think Sega had been busy tweaking Golden Axe II to perfection? Continue reading
